Appearance Spectrals vary greatly in appearance and alignment, but all are inherently connected to the balance of the planet, via their unique “core”. Their core is the source of life, and their bodies encompass and protect the core in one way or another. There are 17 known Spectral races (or forms) – each very distinct and often comprised of natural common or rare elements. See the Spectral Classification Guide for more detail.
Background Spectrals are the most ancient species on Avagar and they are linked directly to lifeforce of the planet. There are three Elder Spectrals that bring balance to the planet, passively protecting the order and peace. The location and identity of the Elder Spectrals is unknown, and this is the way they prefer it. They alone have authority over the “birth” process of core (called “sparking”), and thus the Spectral species.
Legend has it that the planet’s core was actually split and shattered during creation, and its pieces are the source of Spectral life. In this sense, a dormant or “dead” Spectral is literally a piece of the planet’s core, ranging in appearance from a common stone, to a complex gem-like material. Spectrals can be destroyed, but their cores are always reborn.
Spectral’s are ultimately governed by the planet itself. Thus, time and circumstance can greatly affect the behavior of the Spectral species and the individual races. A recent occurrence known as “The Shift” marks a movement of heavy aggressive behavior by most Spectral races. The reasons behind The Shift are unknown.
Location Spectrals are often more “animal” than the other species and they inhabit most of the known planet. Different Spectral forms can be found scattered across the land, often tribal and sticking with their own kind. Many are wild/feral, while others have become more civilized and cultured, mixing with and accommodating other species. Higher numbers of Spectrals that have acclimated to other cultures can be found at Molova and Starpath Village.
